Business colleagues have given me gifts that become part of my eclectic mix. Hearing that my tree was “very creative,” Stamata, one of my vendors at Bloomingdale’s, surprised me with the Wild Angel. In designing the ornament, the craftsperson thought of every detail to distinguish her from traditional angels. Her curly, wild white hair sticks out through her halo. The dress is made from an antique quilt patch with a hand-woven button pocket filled with dried thyme and cinnamon. Both of her long, frisky-looking wire feet are wrapped with flower-printed fabric and tied at the ankles with cord. The angel’s wings are leaves from silk flowers. Wild Angel is a statement of style in her place on top of the tree. As her eyes look up into the heavens, her face is so mischievous but angelic.
